Creamy Chipotle + Lime Dressing + Dip
Here’s a quick and easy recipe for you to make while you are gulping down sipping the drink I hooked you up with on Tuesday. (Remember? The Spicy Pineapple + Jalapeno Margaritas?) If you don’t remember Tuesday, that means you didn’t read my post (and you really should) OR you have had soooo many of those cocktails that you can’t remember much at all (thank you for reading, and you’re welcome). So here is a perfect weekend dip–something you can throw together in a flash (really, just dump and stir). Put it on your burgers or grilled corn or fries or chips or vegetables or your fingers…(this is a NO…

Toast 6+ Ways
Toast is one of my ultimate comfort foods. When I was very little, toast was front and center of my morning routine with my father. I was his official self-appointed toast maker. Every morning, as he was shaving, I would prepare his toast. How many times had I under toasted the bread or was overzealous with the butter or the dollop of my mom’s homemade peach preserves? Who knows, because my sweet dad said it was “absolutely perfect!” every.time. Dad and I took turns fixing each others’ toast for many years. Toast was our love language. Toast was our thing. Today’s toast transcends the white bread stereotype. It is no…

Hand-Crafted Gournay
If provincial northwestern France had a flavor, it would be buttery + herbaceous Gournay. You have probably bought creamy + salty + garlicky + herby artisan Gournay cheese dozens of times without giving thought to how easy it is to create yourself. No need to run to the store to make this oh-so satisfying + fragrant snacking cheese. I’d bet you already have the ingredients for this blend at your fingertips! Herbs? Check! Garlic? Check! Butter? Check! Cream cheese? Check! You got this! I’d also bet that once you create your own house blend of Gournay, you will have choice ingredients at your fingertips At.All.Times.Forever.Amen. Whether they are…

Lemony Creme + White Chocolate Trifle
This Lemony Creme + White Chocolate Trifle is almost too pretty to eat! ALMOST. When the weather starts to get balmy (and stays that way for 5 months), my go to relief is LEMONS. I love lemons. I also love trifle. I do not love baking. There. I said it. I DO NOT BAKE. Suffice it to say, my favorite kind of dessert is a no-bake dessert. Hence, this Lemony Creme + White Chocolate Trifle. Trifles are always a win because they look so elegant without a lot of fuss. You do not even have to turn on the oven to make this gorgeous citrusy delight. All you have to…

Sesame Crusted Ahi Tuna Bites + Ginger-Soy Butter
I wanted to call this recipe Seared Tuna and the Puddle of Love, but The Man nixed that straight outta the gate. Too weird, he said. You’re weird, I said. I love you, he said. Same, I said, and then sulked my way back to the kitchen, my cooking metaphor not having passed muster. You have several options for serving this Sesame Crusted Ahi: as a first course or a party app; sliced on top of a salad; or as entree steaks. Whichever you choose, be sure to use the freshest tuna steaks and pat lots sesame seeds into them (your rule of thumb is about 4 tablespoons of sesame…

Shrimp + Scallop Ceviche
It is already hot as Hades outside. Who in Augusta can fathom turning on the oven for dinner? I.can’t.even. So it was a no-brainer that we would have crisp + cool Shrimp + Scallop Ceviche for dinner. I was much younger when I had my first experience with ceviche. It was on a trip to Chile, and I remember being intrigued when the waiter said the lime juice cooked the fish. What he wanted to say was the fish was denatured by the citric acid, but the easy translation for the gringo he was serving was “cooked.” As you can imagine, the weather in Chile was quite balmy, so eating…

Kentucky Derby Pie Brickle
It’s like a Kentucky Derby Pie but in bite-sized pieces! Although these treats are perfect for watching the race at Churchill Downs, don’t deny yourself of this Kentucky Derby Pie Brickle just because you’re not trackside. There are many reasons for making this recipe. Is Kentucky Derby Pie Brickle ideal for party prep procrastinators? Yes. Is Kentucky Derby Pie Brickle sinfully addicting? Also yes. This brickle requires very few ingredients, very little time, very little skill yet is indubitably delicious. It combines the best of both worlds: candy + bourbon. What’s not to like about that? But fear not the spirits in this recipe. When cooking bourbon, the alcohol…

Bourbon + Pecan Sweets
Serving these at your Kentucky Derby party? Don’t blink! They will be gone as quickly as the horses make their way around the track. Rich + buttery + sugary + crunchy + addictive. Next thing you know, half of these have mysteriously disappeared. These sweets require very few ingredients, very little time, very little skill yet are indubitably delicious. They combine the best of both worlds: candy + bourbon. But fear not the spirits: when cooking bourbon, the alcohol evaporates, leaving you with the deliciously distinct bourbon flavor without the alcohol. If alcohol is not your thing but you like the flavor of bourbon, you can use bourbon flavored vanilla. If…

Curried Chicken Wings + Mango Chutney-Yogurt Dipping Sauce
Does anyone out there in Bloglandia remember when chicken wings were practically free at the grocery store? I mean, back in the day. Prior to their popularity, prior to their ubiquity. Before they became the uber-staple on sports bar menus worldwide (right below the uber-staple nachos). Seriously, if you didn’t know it, once upon a time, chicken wings weren’t “a thing” on a menu. They were scoffed at. They were looked down upon. They had no street cred, per se. After all, wings are merely skin and bones. But wait…isn’t that actually part of their allure? There is the bone that is full of flavorful marrow and insulates that wing…

Ooey Gooey Vidalia Onion Dip
Aaahhh, Vidalia onions. Those sweet colossal bulbs cultivated by Southern soil. Hailed as the paragon of all onions, they are so sweet you could bite into them like you would apples (or so I hear). Typically these horticultural gems are available Spring through Summer. I, however, pulled the onion for this recipe out of my freezer because around here we buy them 25 pounds at a time from the Boy Scouts. These onions are Georgia’s state vegetable, so famous that they even have festivals to celebrate their greatness. (FYI…the 2019 festival is April 25-29, if you’re interested in attending.) While these onions assume the lead role in this dip, the…
